S.Korea's Woojin Plaimm boosts European injection machine business

A South Korean manufacturer of injection moulding machines has reinforced its business foothold in Europe with the sale of a new 1,800 tonne unit to a Czech customer.

Woojin Plaimm, with a European base at Leobersdorf, Austria, recently delivered the larger tonnage machine to Czech automotive and electronic components moulder, RenoStav spol. s.r.o. of Zábreh na Morave in the north east of Czech Republic.

The supplier, based in Beun-gun, South Korea, has already provided half of the 20 lines operated by its existing Czech customer. This deal is just part of Woojin Plaimm’s progress in its strategy of business expansion through Europe and North America.

Since establishing a research and development centre in Leobersdorf in 2014, Woojin Plaimm has grown its European sales office network rapidly from a single partnership in the Czech Republic.

Branches were formed last year through cooperation agreements in Slovakia and the UK, followed early in 2017 with new offices in France, Italy, Romania and Spain. More recently, the Korean firm has set up a partnership with Nortec Maschinentechnik in Soltau, Germany.

The Asian supplier turns out injection machines ranging from 30 – 4,000 tonnes clamping force. In 2015, the company opened a major new manufacturing complex at Beun-gun in central South Korea, to triple its capacity to 6,000 machines per year as its markets grow. Last year, Woojin Plaimm posted group annual turnover valued at €185m.

RenoStav, which employs 150, moulds parts both for the automotive and electrical and electronics industries and counts on customers including Siemens, Ford, VW, Magna and Varroc. The injection moulder achieved annual sales last year worth €6m.
