Westfall Technik brings another injection molder into the fold

To say that Westfall Technik is a fast-gowing business would be an understatement. The holding company, based in Las Vegas, NV, has acquired a slew of injection molding and moldmaking businesses since it was founded in 2017 by Brian Jones, former president and CEO of Nypro Inc. Its most recent acquisition is MicroTech Southwest Inc. (Tempe, AZ), announced on March 20, 2019, which exclusively serves blue-chip OEMs in the medical technology and consumer products sectors.

MicroTech currently operates 24 injection molding machines, ranging in size from 28 to 350 tons. The facility is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, but does not currently have an on-site cleanroom. That will change quickly, according to a press release distributed by Westfall Technik. Modernization plans include an ISO Class 8 cleanroom, Industry 4.0 material handling technology and other infrastructure improvements. The 58,000-square-foot facility will become a center of excellence for Westfall Technik in the western region.

MicroTech is Westfall Technik’s third acquisition just since the start of this year. In February, it purchased Precision Injection Molding Co. (Corona, CA), which is specialized in molding complex parts for the medical, telecommunications, consumer durables and light industrials sectors. In January, it bought micro molder Mold Craft (Willernie, MN). Mold Craft produces plastic parts as small as 5 milligrams with features as small as 0.004 inches; tolerances typically are ±0.001 inches resulting in steel tolerances down to ±0.0001 inches.

Westfall Technik’s portfolio also includes Mold Hotrunner Solutions Inc. (Georgetown, ON), Extreme Tool & Engineering Inc. (Wakefield, MI) and the North American business of Amaray (Elizabethtown, KY), which brought a packaging component to the group. All told, Westfall Technik has made 14 acquisitions since it was founded in 2017.

As stated on its LinkedIn page, Westfall Technik’s ambition is to establish an international network of companies and experts in plastics technology and provide manufacturing solutions for the production of plastic parts in the medical, packaging and consumer goods segments.
